Believe That You Belong
I walked into my living room this morning and the scene you see in the above photo caught my attention. The newspaper has floated around on my table since last May. The scattered note cards ebb and flow like the tide in that river outside. That’s nothing new. But, the note card on the newspaper made me pause.
There are so many stories I could write from that one photo alone, and it totally sums up a conversation I had with one of my sons a few weeks back about believing that you belong. Maybe I’ll write that story when God tells me to get back to work, but until then know this…
The enemy will relentlessly try to convince you that you don’t belong doing the very thing God has put in front of you to do. He even opened a door so you could do it.
I know my people and they follow me…
The enemy will forever whisper: You aren’t good enough. You aren’t prepared enough. You are less qualified, less talented, less of everything. He will lie in order to keep you from taking that first step to do what God has called you to do, and the next step, and the one after that.
Bottom line is, You and God are a majority. Those are the only two votes you need. When God says, “Do this,” and you answer, “Yes,”…Heaven is set in motion. Whatever it is that God is leading you toward, Believe that you belong where He is taking you.
The Book of Life is full of chapters with God calling us to action. As I look back at my own life, the enemy has tried to talk me out of doing pretty much every one of them.
No one can snatch them from my hand. 1
That messy table is a beautiful sight to me. It’s God at work. He chose me and I said, “Yes!”, which is all I could do. It took time for me to believe that I belonged in the role He called me to play in His great story. But today…I love my job!
Believe God has a plan for your life. Seek Him wholeheartedly and He will reveal that plan to you. When He does, and it looks beyond you…Believe you belong, and get to steppin’. 2
