Reminder Monday
When I was a young man on my own, I never ate the end pieces from a loaf of bread, what I called the heels. Just didn’t like them. So in the trash they’d go. Years later, things changed.
With 3 kids in the house and far more than three bills due by the end of each month, those previously discarded heels became sandwiches, because throwing them out just didn’t make good sense, or cents.
That is still my practice today, and somewhere along the way I began calling them the reminder pieces. Why? Because they always remind me that once upon a time there were days when those least favorite pieces of bread were the difference between a sandwich and…nothing.
My God will provide all you need through…
Not long ago my family and I spent a Sunday trying to recover from Thanksgiving Week. 1 We focused on getting some rest and made no trips to the store. So on Monday morning all I found for our lunches were six tired and traveled reminder pieces, (along with a stray hamburger bun from who knows when.) Thankful was I.
Today you can ask my boys if we throw out the end pieces and they will tell you, “No, we do not.” And if you ask them why, they will tell you the same story I just told you, because I made sure to pass it on to them…along with this.
The fact is, in our need, God does and will provide, even if it is just a tired sandwich on a Monday morning…or perhaps a Friday…or any other day that ends in “y”.
…the abundance of His glory in Christ Jesus. 2
I’m passing this along to you because I was “reminded” of this story today, and it’s Monday, and…a Reminder Sandwich is still 100% better than no sandwich.
Y’all have a great week. Remember God loves you, and He will work mightily in whatever little piece of your eternally important life you will give Him to work in. Believe it!
Get In The Boat. Do Your Part. God will provide!
From Nose to Toes!

Footnotes: (1) In the USA, Thanksgiving Day is the fourth Thursday in November. However, special church services, programs, family visits and special time with friends often occur throughout that week which is generally known as Thanksgiving Week. (2) Read Philippians 4:19. This version of the passage is a translation by Chuck Graham, based on additional meanings of the Ancient Greek words used by other translations.
